Picture Books & Easy Readers
The Day the Crayons Came Home, Evermore Dragon decided to color an Elephant in the Dark. Patrick Wants a Dog and tells the Stranded Whale to Get Out of My Bath! Totally Tardy Marty invites Troll and the Oliver to a Tea Party in the Woods. And This Old Van heads to Lulu’s Party, where we see Queen’s Hat.

Hi-Ho, Tiny, Prince Fly Guy wants to know Why Do Leaves Change Color? Daniel Visits the Library where Wild West Callie Asks for Help. Meanwhile Katie Woo, Super Scout is on the lookout for Supersize Animals.

Nonfiction
Frozen fever continues with a party ideas book, just in time for cool summer festivities. And speaking of fever, Susan Campbell Bartoletti tells the story of Typhoid Mary. Kate Messner’s last nonfiction work went down deep into the dirt, but this time she’s soaring into the trees. Catherine Reef had better have a super editor because her latest biography is about the author of the dictionary. Pura Belpre Award and Honor authors are back: Margarita Engle’s memoir of being both Cuban and American and Duncan Tonatiuh’s look at the origin of Mexico’s calaveras skeletons.

Fiction
Big titles in juvenile series fiction include Percy Jackson's Greek Heroes, the latest chapter in the adventures of Captain Underpants, and new chapter book graphic hybrid series Hamster Princess. Also, we have two new novels from beloved authors—Sachar gives us a cautionary tale about the dangers of modern science with Fuzzy Mud and Stead offers a story of 3 friends trying to survive 7th grade with Goodbye Stranger.

In YA, a couple of important laydowns are coming in August from Harlequin Teen—an epic historical fantasy chronicling the rise of Alexander the Great with Legacy of Kings and the sophomore novel from the charming Adi Alsaid in which two best friends decide to attempt everything on their Never Do in High School list to mix things up their senior year. And from David Levithan comes a companion novel to his blockbuster Every Day, this time from Rhiannon's POV. Lastly, my favorite novel of the Fall lineup so far with Fowley-Doyle's dark and lovely The Accident Season.

Graphic Novels
August will see the publication of several juvenile and teen titles: in juvenile, from Jennifer and Matthew Holm comes the semi-autobiographical Sunny Side Up and don’t forget to pick up their seventh Squish, Craig Thompson’s debut for younger readers, Space Dumplins, a new Goosebumps, and volume 16 of Geronimo Stilton.

In teen, Don Brown delivers more nonfiction, this time on Hurricane Katrina. There's also volume nine of Maximum Ride, volume 75 of One Piece, and volume 71 of Naruto.
