The Stranger Library Edition CD, Trade Edition CD, MP3 CD, and Pre-Recorded Audio Player
by Harlan Coben, read by George Newbern

A typical Harlan Coben novel features an ordinary guy enjoying a comfortable existence, until something happens to cause his life to spin out of control and put him in danger. The Stranger follows this same pattern. Adam Price is attending an event for his sons’ lacrosse team when he is approached by a stranger who informs him that his wife faked her recent pregnancy. Adam investigates, confronts his wife with the evidence, and she disappears. Two other women are murdered and Adam discovers that a shadowy organization has been blackmailing people who have done something immoral on the Internet. Adam learns the hard way that some people will kill to keep their secrets hidden. Coben is a master at this kind of story, weaving a suspenseful tale that will keep listeners entranced until the end, and pointing out that our online behavior leaves a trail that can be followed. George Newbern is a talented reader; the novel is excellent and Newbern stays out of its way, providing emotion and characterization without unnecessary quirks that would draw the listener’s attention away from the story. Coben’s many fans will be satisfied with his latest offering, and most public libraries should consider it a necessary purchase.
