Nonfiction
This November sees nonfiction titles offered on a wide variety of topics. Hitting the shelves is another Harry Potter screenplay, this time for the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Accompanying the screenplay are the Magical Movie Handbook and a Character Guide. Biographer Catherine Reef chronicles the life of Florence Nightingale. Dan Powell and Phil Lester follow-up The Amazing Book Is Not on Fire with Dan and Phil Go Outside. Fall is a great time to discuss squirrels! See what April Pulley Sayre and Steve Jenkins have to say about them. Speaking of Steve Jenkins, he looks at Animals by the Numbers. The well-reviewed Hidden Figures, the true story of four African American women who served as “human calculators” for our space program is treated to a young readers’ edition. Sky Pony was quick to join the Pokemon Go craze, offering Mini Hacks for Pokemon Go Players: Secret Tips for Mastering the Game and Mini Hacks for Pokemon Go Players: Combat: Skills, Tips, and Techniques for Capture and Battle. Sean Connolly has a new book of experiments: Spectacular Sports Science. Scholastic will offer a book of presidents that will include #45.

Fiction
Lots of series entries are Juvie Fic’s mainstays in November, the most important being Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book 11: Double Down in which Greg’s mom is forcing him to play less video games and get more creative.  Other big volumes releasing are the new Princess in Black, Thea Stilton, Geronimo Stilton: Micekings, Warriors Super Edition, Ranger’s Apprentice: The Early Years, and Pip Bartlett.

In contrast, strong November YA titles are mostly stand-alone, the most notable being Marissa Meyer of Lunar Chronicles fame reimagining Wonderland and its origins, particularly the rise of the Queen of Hearts in Heartless.  (Check out the Book Reviews tab of the newsletter to see my full review of this exquisitely-told fractured fairy tale.)  We also have Nicola Yoon’s sophomore effort The Sun is Also a Star about a teen who only has hours left to fight her family’s deportation back to Jamaica. And Neal Shusterman imagines a world where humanity has scientifically gained immortality, only to cede control of death to a select few humans in Scythe. (Again, see Rachel’s full review!)  Lastly, in The Romantics we get a light-hearted, funny, madcap tale where Love itself is a character, and even Kirkus says, “this fresh dose of optimism will warm the cockles of the heart.”

Graphic Novels
November will see the publication of several juvenile and teen titles: in juvenile make sure you stock up on the third unofficial graphic novel for Minecrafters and the next Geronimo Stilton, Lego Ninjago, and Adventure Time.

In teen, we have the next volumes of One-Punch Man, My Hero Academia, One Piece, Fairy Tail, and Bleach.
